## Overview

Gallbladder cancer is a rare cancer that begins in the tissues of the gallbladder, a small pear-shaped organ located beneath the liver. The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile, a digestive fluid that helps break down fats in the small intestine. While the gallbladder plays a helpful role in digestion, it is not essential for survival, and many people live normally without it.

Because the gallbladder sits deep within the abdomen and early symptoms are often vague or absent, gallbladder cancer is often diagnosed at a later stage. Early detection offers the best chance for successful treatment, but even in advanced cases, specialized care can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

## Signs & Symptoms

Gallbladder cancer often does not cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. As the disease progresses, people may experience:

- Pain or discomfort in the upper right abdomen
- A feeling of fullness or discomfort in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen
- Unintentional weight loss
- Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- Nausea, vomiting, and fever

These symptoms can be caused by many conditions unrelated to cancer, but it is important to talk with your doctor if they persist or worsen.
