These procedures use small instruments like needles or catheters to diagnose or treat conditions without the need for large incisions. In cancer care, interventional radiology can help diagnose tumors, deliver treatment directly to cancer cells, relieve symptoms, or support other parts of a patient’s treatment plan. Because these procedures are less invasive than traditional surgery, they often involve shorter recovery times, less discomfort, and fewer complications. Your care team will explain which interventional radiology procedures may be helpful for your diagnosis and treatment goals.
