Thomas Heffernan, MD

Dr. Heffernan has been in private practice in Dallas, Texas since completing his fellowship at UT Southwestern in 2009. He was an early adopter of the daVinci surgical robotic system, undertaking his first case in 2009. He was the first surgeon to perform robotic-assisted surgery at Medical City Dallas, Presbyterian Plano, and Medical City Frisco, and has completed thousands of cases on the daVinci system since then. Dr. Heffernan was designated as an epicenter surgeon by Intuitive Surgical, the manufacturer of the daVinci robot in 2011, and has since trained hundreds of surgeons in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and nationwide. He treats a broad range of benign and malignant gynecologic conditions.
In addition to offering the most advanced surgical treatments, Dr. Heffernan and his staff take a special interest in cancer genetics, immunotherapy, and targeted chemotherapy treatments for gynecologic malignancies. Each treatment plan is tailored to the unique needs and characteristics of the patient and the diagnosis.
Dr. Heffernan is married with one child. His wife Jennifer practices Geriatric Medicine at Baylor. His daughter Genevieve is a budding equestrian and nature lover. Dr. Heffernan enjoys art, music, nature, swimming, biking, and automobiles.
