Biologic Therapy
About This Treatment
Biologic therapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses substances made from living organisms or substances created in a lab that mimic natural immune components to help the body fight cancer. These therapies may strengthen the immune system, slow the growth of cancer cells, or block signals that help tumors develop. Biologic therapy includes treatments such as monoclonal antibodies, growth factors, cytokines, and vaccines. Immunotherapy and targeted therapy are considered types of biologic therapy and may be used alone or in combination with one another or with other cancer treatments, depending on each patient’s diagnosis and care plan.
Biologic therapies are often given through an infusion or injection in an outpatient setting. Your care team will determine the most appropriate type of biologic therapy for your condition and will monitor your response closely, helping manage any side effects and adjusting treatment as needed.
