Palliative care is specialized medical care that focuses on improving quality of life for people living with a serious illness. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage of illness and can be provided alongside curative or life-prolonging treatments. The goal of palliative care is to help patients feel as well as possible by managing symptoms, providing emotional and spiritual support, guiding complex decisions, and ensuring care aligns with each person’s goals and values. This additional layer of support is available not only to patients, but also to their families and caregivers.
