Treatments Radiation Therapy

Offered at 22 Locations

Radiation therapy uses highly targeted, high-energy radiation to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors. It is one of the most common treatments for cancer. Radiation may be used on its own or combined with other treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy, depending on each patient’s diagnosis and care plan.Radiation therapy affects only the area of the body being treated. It works by damaging cancer cells so they can no longer grow and divide. Healthy cells in the surrounding area may also be exposed to radiation, but they can usually repair themselves and return to normal function. Your care team will plan each treatment carefully to deliver the most precise dose while protecting as much healthy tissue as possible.

Treatments Radiopharmaceutical Therapy

Radiopharmaceutical therapy is a type of targeted cancer treatment that delivers radiation directly to cancer cells while limiting exposure to healthy tissue. These therapies use specialized molecules that travel through the bloodstream and attach to specific features of cancer cells. Once the medicine reaches its target, it releases radiation that helps destroy the cancer from within. Radiopharmaceuticals offer important treatment options for patients with certain advanced or metastatic cancers, including those who may not be responding to conventional therapies. Treatment is typically provided in an outpatient setting, allowing patients to receive care with minimal disruption to daily life.Radiopharmaceutical therapy may be given through an injection or intravenous infusion. Your care team will determine whether this treatment is appropriate based on your diagnosis and the characteristics of your tumor. They will monitor you closely during and after treatment to manage any side effects and ensure the therapy is working safely and effectively.

Services Rheumatology

Rheumatology focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the joints, muscles, bones, and immune system. Rheumatologists care for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that can cause pain, stiffness, swelling, and long-term damage if untreated. These conditions may occur on their own or alongside cancer or cancer therapies, making specialized evaluation especially important. Rheumatologists use physical exams, imaging, and laboratory testing to understand the cause of symptoms and develop treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Treatment may include medications, injections, lifestyle guidance, and coordinated care with other specialists to help reduce inflammation, manage pain, and improve mobility and quality of life.

Services Second Opinions & Consultations

Offered at 21 Locations

A second opinion gives patients the opportunity to have their diagnosis or treatment plan reviewed by another cancer specialist. This visit allows you to ask questions, explore additional treatment options, and feel confident that your care plan is the right one for you. During a second opinion consultation, an oncology provider reviews your medical history, imaging, pathology, and test results, and discusses recommendations based on the most current evidence and guidelines. Many patients seek a second opinion to better understand their diagnosis, confirm their treatment approach, or learn whether clinical trials or advanced therapies may be available.Your care team will work with you to gather records, explain the findings, and answer any questions you may have. Instead, it offers another expert perspective to support informed decision making and give you peace of mind as you move forward with treatment. At The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, our multidisciplinary team provides second opinions for patients at any point in their cancer journey. Our medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, hematologists, and supportive care teams collaborate to review each case thoroughly and offer personalized recommendations. Treatments Supportive Procedures

Supportive procedures are treatments that help manage symptoms, reduce side effects, and support the overall comfort and wellbeing of patients during cancer care. These procedures make it easier to continue treatment safely and may help prevent complications or unplanned hospital visits. Supportive procedures can include placing ports or PICC lines to deliver chemotherapy, draining fluid from around the lungs or abdomen to improve breathing, relieving pain through targeted injections or bone-strengthening treatments, or placing feeding tubes or stents to support nutrition and digestion. Other supportive therapies such as blood transfusions, hydration, or treatments for infection help patients stay stable and better able to continue their care.Your care team will recommend supportive procedures based on your diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment plan. Most procedures are minimally invasive and are performed in an outpatient or short-stay setting. You will be monitored closely before, during, and after the procedure to help ensure safety, comfort, and a smooth recovery.

Treatments Surgical Oncology

Offered at 15 Locations

Treatments Targeted Therapy

Offered at 22 Locations

These medications work by blocking signals that cancer cells rely on or by acting directly on cells with certain genetic or molecular characteristics. Targeted therapy is usually recommended when testing shows that a tumor has a feature that matches a particular treatment. It may be used alone or combined with other treatments such as chemotherapy or immunotherapy based on each patient’s diagnosis and personalized care plan.Targeted therapy may be taken as pills or given through an infusion in an outpatient setting. Your care team will determine the most appropriate option for your specific tumor type and will monitor you closely to help manage side effects and ensure the treatment is working as intended.
