Second Opinions & Consultations
About This Service
A second opinion gives patients the opportunity to have their diagnosis or treatment plan reviewed by another cancer specialist. This visit allows you to ask questions, explore additional treatment options, and feel confident that your care plan is the right one for you. During a second opinion consultation, an oncology provider reviews your medical history, imaging, pathology, and test results, and discusses recommendations based on the most current evidence and guidelines. Many patients seek a second opinion to better understand their diagnosis, confirm their treatment approach, or learn whether clinical trials or advanced therapies may be available.
Your care team will work with you to gather records, explain the findings, and answer any questions you may have. A second opinion does not replace your existing care team. Instead, it offers another expert perspective to support informed decision making and give you peace of mind as you move forward with treatment.
At The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, our multidisciplinary team provides second opinions for patients at any point in their cancer journey. Our medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, hematologists, and supportive care teams collaborate to review each case thoroughly and offer personalized recommendations. We welcome patients who are newly diagnosed, seeking clarity about their treatment plan, or looking for access to advanced therapies and clinical trials.
Why Patients Seek a Second Opinion
Second opinions are common, encouraged, and often helpful when facing important decisions about cancer care. Patients may request a second opinion if they want to:
- Confirm their diagnosis or treatment plan
- Explore additional therapies or less invasive options
- Understand complex or rare cancers more clearly
- Learn whether genetic testing or biomarker testing could guide treatment
- Get reassurance before beginning a major treatment
- Hear recommendations from a specialist experienced in their specific cancer type
Patients That May Benefit
Our supportive services nurture the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, helping patients undergoing treatment manage side effects, find comfort, and promote well-being through every stage of care.
