Targeted Therapy
About This Treatment
Targeted therapy is a type of cancer treatment that focuses on targeting specific features or changes within cancer cells. These medications work by blocking signals that cancer cells rely on or by acting directly on cells with certain genetic or molecular characteristics. Targeted therapy is usually recommended when testing shows that a tumor has a feature that matches a particular treatment. It may be used alone or combined with other treatments such as chemotherapy or immunotherapy based on each patient’s diagnosis and personalized care plan.
Targeted therapy may be taken as pills or given through an infusion in an outpatient setting. Your care team will determine the most appropriate option for your specific tumor type and will monitor you closely to help manage side effects and ensure the treatment is working as intended.
