Tumor Resection/Excision
About This Treatment
Tumor resection, also called tumor excision, is a surgical procedure used to remove a tumor from the body. Surgery is often one of the first treatments considered for cancers that can be safely removed, and it may be used to diagnose, treat, or help stage the disease. In many cases, removing the tumor helps reduce symptoms, prevent the cancer from spreading, or improve the effectiveness of other treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy. The type of surgery recommended depends on the location, size, and stage of the tumor, as well as each patient’s overall health and treatment plan.
Your surgical and oncology teams will determine the most appropriate approach for your diagnosis and work together to ensure a safe procedure, smooth recovery, and seamless transition to any additional treatments you may need.
